Cabin Fever
There are plenty of places to make your own family traditions of summers spent lakeside. Cabin rentals are available across the province and most offer access to a lake or river, meaning your days can be spent splashing in the refreshing water. Head to Duck Mountain Provincial Park and rent a cabin on Blue Lake or Wellman Lake. Paddle around in a canoe or rent a boat and see how many fish you can catch. Riding Mountain National Park is one of this province’s top summer destinations. Stay in a lake front lodge on Clear Lake and enjoy all the amenities in the Wasagaming townsite – charming boutiques, tasty treats and even a movie theatre.
Head north for a wilderness adventure that you can only find in Manitoba. Many of the lakeside accommodations here offer incredible fishing. Try Athapapuskow Lake, Clearwater Lake or the Grass River for great fishing and comfy cabins.
In Manitoba’s diverse western region, stay in comfort at a bed and breakfast. Often located to offer the best of the area’s natural and cultural attractions, a B&B offers a retreat with all the comforts of home. Stay in the “cabin in the attic” in the grand country house of Poplar Lane Bed & Breakfast in Crystal City or enjoy the theme suites and nearby trail, lake and golf course at Cozy Rivers Inn Bed & Breakfast in Rivers.
Love Yurts
Can’t quite decide between the comfort of a cabin or the charm of camping? Why not spend your Manitoba summer holiday in a yurt. A yurt is a traditional circular dwelling originating from the nomadic people of the Turkish and Mongolian steppes. Although they maintain the same shape, Manitoba’s yurts are built to be permanent structures using modern materials and can be found across Manitoba. Guests bring their own bedding, utensils and cooking equipment, while furniture, including beds, come standard. Most yurts are found in provincial parks – you can find them in Stephenfield Provincial Park, Spruce Woods Provincial Park, Whiteshell Provincial Park, Camp Morton Provincial Park, Asessippi Provincial Park and Clearwater Lake Provincial Park.
