Manitoba loves Dinuk Wijeratne, and WMC is proud to present him and his trio in our first concert of the season, in co-production with Winnipeg Jazz and in partial sponsorship by ASDEL Structural Engineers.

A JUNO and multi-award-winning composer, conductor, and pianist, Dinuk is a Sri Lankan-born Canadian, described as ‘exuberantly creative’ (NYTimes) and ‘a modern polymath’ (MCO). He is equally at home in collaborations with symphony orchestras and string quartets, tabla players and DJs. His boundary-crossing work takes him to international venues as poles apart as the Berlin Philharmonic and the North Sea Jazz Festival.

Wijeratne's "Two Pop Songs on Antique Poems" won both the 2016 Juno Award for Classical Composition of the Year and the 2016 East Coast Music Award for Classical Composition of the Year.

In this concert, he will be joined by versatile percussionist Nick Halley and award-winning jazz bassist Tom Easley.
