PART 2 - Play time on the water

While the Whiteshell is the summer home for numerous cabin owners and seasonal campers who own their watercrafts and toys, there is still plenty of ways for day trippers and vacationers to rent equipment to get out on the lake. Faloma Beach Marina on Falcon Lake rents fishing boats as well as watersport equipment like skis, wakeboards and tubes. At West Hawk Marine, guests can book a pontoon boat for a leisurely self-guided tour of Manitoba’s deepest lake or opt for something self-propelled such as paddleboats or stand-up paddleboards. You can also ply the clear waters by canoe or kayak – Caddy Lake Resort and Green Bay Resort both offer rentals in close proximity to the popular Caddy Lake tunnels canoe route.

Fishing, boat or beach fun at West Hawk Lake

The lake life vibe of the Whiteshell may seem like an unlikely place to also discover a ranch. Falcon Beach Ranch, located along the Trans-Canada Highway at Falcon Lake, offers interactive horseback riding tours for all ages. For a more immersive getaway, stay in one of three rustic log cabins onsite and enjoy the horses, campfire, sauna and hot tubbing all night long.

PART 3 - Follow the trail

The Whiteshell boasts the province’s most impressive network of trails, ranging from easy lakeside paths to challenging rocky inclines. For mountain biking, the flat shore trails around Falcon Lake in the south are ideal for beginners, while those with more experience head to Blue Highway near Caddy Lake or Five of Diamonds at Falcon Trails Resort. For beginner hikers (or those with young kids), Pine Point, Rainbow Falls and Sturgeon Falls trails offer easy distances and scenic finales of rushing water. For more challenging routes over the ancient rocks, McGillivray Falls, Hanson Creek and Hunt Lake trails are longer distances and very picturesque. A multi-day, backcountry adventure, the Mantario Trail, which straddles the Manitoba-Ontario border, is a crowning achievement for many experienced outdoors people.
